"I have long thought that the best way to get young people started in the direction of becoming natural philosophers is to let them begin by becoming first, gardeners and then craftsmen" - Henry Geiger, MANAS

SUNLIGHT AND WATERWhen you think about it, few things in life are more amazing than watching sunlight and water turn a tiny seed into a living, growing plant. What better way to teach children about responsibility and consistency than watering and nurturing some flower or vegetable seeds to maturity and being able eat food that you grew yourself?

Kid's Planter Box Kit

NEW PROJECTCurrently, we are developing a small planter box in which to practice growing seeds for our first GROW project. Materials for gardening are readily available almost anywhere but for those don’t have access or prefer the convenience of having everything you need in one box, we will soon offer a growing kit.

GROWING KITThe seed box is constructed in a similar (but simpler) way as the kids’ toolbox (see BUILD) and can be assembled with a screwdriver and screws. We include the pre-cut and pre-drilled wood pieces (5), screwdriver and screws, material to fold a waterproof liner for the box (2), peat-moss seed containers (2), growing medium (enhanced soil) for planting the seeds, and a variety of seeds for growing edible plants and flowers in your own window garden. If you live where you already have an outdoor garden (or want to start one) you can start seeds that can be transplanted outdoors (in season) once the seeds have developed in the window box.

IDEAS AND SUGGESTIONSIf you have ideas, stories or suggestions for growing plants with young children, go to the (SHARE page) and tell us about them.
